Athlete of the Week – Rex Hamling

In his first year with the track club, Rex Hamling has set the stage for the 2017 cross-country season.  At the Belgrade Invitational, Rex finishing in second place with a time of 9:41.4 to lead the boys team to a first place finish.  The boy’s team finished with eight runners in the top twelve for a team score of 22 points, followed by Livingston in second with 49 points and Townsend with 91 points to round off the top three teams.

Rex is in the 8th grade at Chief Joseph Middle School and is excited to be part of the cross-country team.  His favorite snack is a Bobcat sandwich at the Pickle Barrel and in his spare time he enjoys playing the cello.  Rex’s favorite song is “Thunderstruck” by 2 Cellos and enjoys playing with their house-cat, Heidi when not playing the cello.  His goal for the cross-country season is to continue to improve with every race and get his current 6:02 race pace under six minutes.   In addition to being a great runner, Rex was also on last year’s honor roll and  hopes to keep his grades up for a future collegiate scholarship.

Nice job Rex — your on your way to a successful season!
